Samurai Kitchen – Hoi An, Vietnam
We had tried to eat at Samurai Kitchen on previous occasions but they were always full. As it was my husband’s birthday and he loves Japanese food, I booked ahead. He was not disappointed.

Read MoreLocated on a small alley with an unassuming front, it would be easy to miss this place. From the front door it appears quite dark but if you do venture in, head out the back to the courtyard.
Read MoreThis is a lovely little place in a pretty courtyard tucked away from the hustle and bustle of the Ancient Town. On the morning we were there, there was a light cloud cover so the open roof allowed a gentle breeze and dappled sunshine in the garden.
Read MoreLast week we gave our love of Vietnamese food a break and decided on Japanese at Tadioto. The original is an institution in the Hanoi dining scene but they only recently branched out and we’re glad they chose Hoi An.
Read MoreLast night’s dinner at Restaurant 328 was a terrific surprise. We were warmly welcomed, quickly made comfortable and drinks were prompt. From the road, it looks like many other restaurants on Cua Dai Street but when the food arrived it was clear that they put as much care into their cooking as their hospitality.
Read MoreWhat a lovely surprise! We wandered past Nhan’s Kitchen on one of our morning walks and found them setting up for their first day of trade after the Tet celebrations. At first glance, it looks like a little like a neighbourhood trattoria specialising in pizza/pasta/western food but after hearing about the Vietnamese specials we decided to return that night for dinner.
Read MoreThis will probably be one of my shorter reviews because it doesn’t take too many words to explain ‘outstanding’. The food is amazing. We’ve tried so many dishes across numerous visits and we have yet to come across one that is not delicious.
Read MoreWe have so many favourite restaurants and bars on Koh Samui that it’s easy to fill our days and nights but it’s also fun to check out new options which is why we stopped at Beach in Bangrak. So glad we did!
Read MoreIt’s been just over twelve months since our last visit but my initial review for Beach Republic still stands – in my experience, it’s still one of the best brunch spots on the island.
Read MorePolished but comfortable with a clever menu and professional yet friendly service – that was my impression of Canvas. We sat at the bar to take advantage of the ‘entertainment’ of the working kitchen and while there were no Gordon Ramsay style fireworks, it was interesting to watch the team operating so seamlessly.
Read MoreGreat vibe, super friendly and comfortable – Havana Cafe is a terrific little spot for lunch (it’s shaded!), afternoon drinks or a nightcap on the way home. Food is great particularly the Cuban but the tapas plates are also a nice change if you’re looking for something other than Vietnamese food.
Read MorePassed by a few times and it was always full so we decided to give it a try – delicious food and lovely service, so much so that we went twice during our stay. Initially we had BBQ pork and salad and BBQ chicken and sizzling rice, and on the second visit, caramelised fish in claypot and sizzling rice with pork and egg.
Read MoreStopped by for a drink on the way home from the beach and loved it! Positioned between Cua Dai Road and the fish farms behind, it’s mostly open air with mix of casual bar table seating and lounges creating a relaxed and funky vibe.
Read MoreLoving the Vietnamese food in Hoi An but on the weekend we treat ourselves to something different and this week it was Mexican at Hola Taco. It was quiet when we arrived and we had a good choice of tables so we chose the balcony/street side as the inside was stiflingly hot.
Read MoreWe’ve been riding past for a few weeks and thought it looked cute so we put it on our list but now I wish we had stopped in sooner. Staff are welcoming and happy to assist with recommendations if required. We opted for grilled aubergine, grilled bacon (aka pork belly) and pork in guava leaves.
