Seasun Restaurant – Hoi An, Vietnam
We first stopped in for afternoon drinks which were cold and cheap, but the welcome was so friendly that, after looking at the menu, we decided to venture back for dinner a few nights later.

Read MoreHoang’s place is a relaxed, family run establishment. No frills but clean, cheap and cheerful. The menu is not huge but all the local specialities are there and not only that, they are some of the best I’ve tried in Hoi An, particularly the crispy pork wontons. – each large wonton was topped with a generous serving of delicious rich salsa-like tomato sauce and a prawn.
Read MoreWe had a fantastic Greek feast at Mix last night. It’s in the busy centre of the ancient town but one of the quieter streets so the outlook is lovely and plenty of opportunity to watch the passing parade. The welcome was warm and friendly, staff are professional and it appears that they are a well trained and happy team.
Read MoreTwo things drew us to 96 for dinner. Firstly, the riverside location is tops for people watching in the crazy centre of the old town but even better and secondly, they advertised their drinks with very fair prices (compared to most in this area) clearly displayed out front.

We’ve travelled a bit in Vietnam and this is easily the best Vietnamese meal we’ve had – fresh, tasty and full of flavour but it was also different. Yes, the standard dishes are available but there are also others that are not on every other menu.
Read MoreBeing tucked away in an alley, it’s not a place you would ‘stumble across’ but there is well lit signage on the street so it’s certainly not difficult to find. It’s a small space with cute and quirky interior design making it feel like you’re sitting in an old fashioned market type restaurant. Bench seating is comfortable, the main room is air conditioned and spotlessly clean.
Read MoreGiven that it’s hiding down an alley away from a busy street, this little gem is a relaxed spot for a romantic dinner or group night out. It could be a little difficult to find but if you look out for the ‘Bep Me In’ sign on the street (it’s the restaurant right next door to Cocotte) you won’t have trouble.
Read MoreOn Saturday, we hosted a lunch celebration at Restaurant Mason with 40 of my nearest and dearest. It was superb in every aspect. Instantly upon arrival, guests were welcomed with a glass of champagne in the sunshine, gifts were taken care of with discretion, canapes were served and every need was taken care of.
Read MoreI try to keep up with the restaurant happenings in the Hunter Valley but I missed this one and what a pleasant surprise it is! Located at the Cockfighter’s Ghost Vineyard on De Beyers Road, it’s elegant without being too fussy. A relaxed space with pleasantly professional service.
Read MoreLooking for something nice for our last night in Beijing and having eaten at M on The Bund (in Shanghai), this was an obvious choice for us. It’s in an amazing spot, right opposite Tiananmen Square and the view at night is superb. When we visited, it was too cold to make use of the outside space but I can just imagine how beautiful it would be to sit there with a glass of wine and watch the city light up.
Read MoreMy research into the Guanghzhou dining scene was not revealing much in the way of modern, middle of the road restaurants until I came across Social & Co and it was exactly what I was hoping to find. The space is modern, bistro-style over two storeys with mezzanine and open at the front to allow the breeze. Staff were friendly and attentive but not overly so.
Read MoreLooking for breakfast on a rainy morning, we decided to give the Tailor’s Workshop a try and we weren’t disappointed. Being at the end of the busy Beaumont Street strip, parking was easy and the dismal weather meant street-side dining was out, but inside was warm and cosy with a bit of an old-school Mediterranean vibe.
Read MoreWe came across De Salita while staying nearby and initially thought is was more of a ‘beer bar’ but when we popped in for a cleansing ale, we checked out their menu and decided to give it a go. Very glad we did. We all (3) went for pastas and they were some of the nicest we’ve sampled in recent times.
Read MoreIf you’re a seafood fan, the Dinh Cau Night Market is my holy grail of seafood. There are many pop-up style restaurants side by side but for us, Quan Mien Trung has proven to provide the freshest food with the best variety and they’re very flexible about seasonings and sauces.
Read MoreWe arrived mid-week without a booking and found they were fully booked due to hosting a product launch. Not to worry, the lovely young lady who greeted us suggested we take a table on the verandah of the bar and we could nibble from the bar menu. Having already looked at the menu online, we were more than happy to do that as we had already had a large lunch anyway.
