Last time I flew first class with Emirates (Sydney to Auckland), I thought it would be my ultimate Emirates experience but with a little bit of planning, here we are again!  This time it’s Bangkok to Sydney – a 9 hour grand finale to my three month stay in Vietnam.  What a way to finish!

Hoi An has hundreds of tailors and on previous visits we had items made that turned out to be not great with regard to quality of fabric and workmanship. This time, we went to Bao Khanh Silk and we’re thrilled with the results.

What’s important to you when you travel?  Do you have a checklist?  For me, a comfortable bed is non-negotiable, as is cleanliness, security and a good location.  If the destination is Asia, air conditioning is a must but I also love a ceiling fan so I can use the air only when it’s really necessary.

We chose Citrus purely on appearances – from the street it’s light, airy and clean and that theme continues inside. We didn’t have an appointment but the welcome was friendly and we were given ample opportunity to chose the treatment that best suited our needs.

After travelling in Asia since 1990, you would think I would have come to terms with that funny little hose by the toilet but I’m embarrassed to say, it’s taken me until recent times to really appreciate the concept. Last week I was whisked away for lunch in the Hunter Valley to celebrate a milestone birthday.  When we turned into Cessnock Airport, I was a tad concerned but it turned out I was to have my first helicopter flight (not my initial fear of a skydive!).  After a little safety briefing, our pilot, Oliver, took photos and we were quickly on our way.

On the road again – Chiang Mai – Bangkok – HCMC – Phu Quoc

Excess baggage sucks big time! If you do the crime, you must be prepared to pay the fine but it’s hard to swallow when you do the right thing and dump some kilos and then see others taking carry on baggage larger than our check-in…. Air Asia provide an efficient and cost productive product but they need to work on their consistency.

After our previous experience with the Air Asia ferry crossing from Samui to Donasak with Raja and their bus connection to Surat Thani, we were keen to try another operator. This time we went with Lomprayah and the ferry connection was so much better. We booked online and took our booking (on the mobile phone) to 7-eleven to pay.

Samui to Bangkok with Air Asia – Thailand

Although many of our previous visits to Samui have been for a month (a long time compared to most) we still hadn’t trialled the Air Asia option from Samui to Bangkok as we didn’t feel that spending the greater part of a day travelling was time well spent. This time we’re here for an extended stay and we did say we were ready for an adventure!
