Last week we gave our love of Vietnamese food a break and decided on Japanese at Tadioto. The original is an institution in the Hanoi dining scene but they only recently branched out and we’re glad they chose Hoi An.

From the street, it appears to be a gorgeous retail store but at the rear a courtyard opens to a moody little bar and then past cozy nooks through to the sushi bar and open air restaurant right at the back. Their passion is obvious in the detail of the decor and the quality of the food. The drinks menu looked interesting but after a long day, I went straight to the Tadioto Special and it was very refreshing.

We were only looking for a small meal so he opted for the Sushi Moriawase (best in recent memory apparently!) and I decided to explore something a little different with the Tadioto Roll. I figured if they had such good taste in styling, I could trust their take on the standard roll and I’m glad I did. Salmon, cream cheese and cucumber, firmly rolled and crumbed with a delicate golden crunch. And in true Japanese style, it’s all presented like a rare piece of art. Portions are generous so our ‘small meal’ didn’t quite work out that way but it was worth it in the end. I look forward to trying the ramen.

Excellent food served faultlessly in a space with beautiful ambience. With such a seductive atmosphere, Tadioto is perfect for a date night but it would also be terrific with friends.
