Samurai Kitchen – Hoi An, Vietnam

We had tried to eat at Samurai Kitchen on previous occasions but they were always full. As it was my husband’s birthday and he loves Japanese food, I booked ahead. He was not disappointed. We started with the Gyoza (very fine filling) and Torikawa Ponzu (crunchy chicken skin) to share. For mains we chose the Tonkatsu (tender meat, crispy crumb, super side of cabbage!), Okonomiyaki (full of flavour and not oily like others I had tried elsewhere) and a yummy Katsudon (there were three of us!). All were delicious – super tasty, delicately balanced and beautifully executed. Being in the Ancient Town, we expected it could be a bit touristy but staff were warm and friendly and we really felt like we were in a traditional Japanese eating house. Portion sizes are generous and value is excellent. We ordered way too much food! I look forward to returning to try the Ramen in the coming weeks.
