We chose The Paragon based on location and the fact that it has a pool. Although the pool was nice enough, we didn’t use it in the end but with sights, restaurants, bars and shopping nearby, the location is definitely a winner.

We came across De Salita while staying nearby and initially thought is was more of a ‘beer bar’ but when we popped in for a cleansing ale, we checked out their menu and decided to give it a go. Very glad we did. We all (3) went for pastas and they were some of the nicest we’ve sampled in recent times.

If you’re a seafood fan, the Dinh Cau Night Market is my holy grail of seafood. There are many pop-up style restaurants side by side but for us, Quan Mien Trung has proven to provide the freshest food with the best variety and they’re very flexible about seasonings and sauces.

Located in the Gulf of Thailand, Phu Quoc is a Vietnamese island that’s actually closer to Cambodia (12 kilometres) than Vietnam (38 kilometres). And yes, this has been a source of contention amongst both nationalities over the years! One of the island’s primary industries is fishing and evidence of this can be seen in the eye-catching trawlers crowding ports and anchored around the coast.

On the road again – Chiang Mai – Bangkok – HCMC – Phu Quoc

Excess baggage sucks big time! If you do the crime, you must be prepared to pay the fine but it’s hard to swallow when you do the right thing and dump some kilos and then see others taking carry on baggage larger than our check-in…. Air Asia provide an efficient and cost productive product but they need to work on their consistency.

Our last stop in Thailand (for this trip!). It’s been over 20 years since we were last here and of course it’s changed. Normally that makes me a little sad but I can honestly say I like it much better now than I did last time. Being surrounded by mountains, it’s quite a green city and less humid than our southern stops.

We had a shocking time finding Laan Mai Fai Chang but I’m blaming that on google maps! Once we arrived, we instantly felt relaxed. We were greeted by smiling faces and welcomed like family – in fact check in was almost non-existent and after a long drive, it was wonderful to be taken straight to our room to relax.
