A lovely garden setting with friendly staff and the food was ok but there were a few things that surprised us.When we first sat down, I thought I heard the waiter telling the family seated near us about specials. When he showed us the menu board there was no mention of specials so I assumed he was just offering something special to the children. After we ordered, another couple was seated near us and he told them about the day’s specials! Not sure if it was something I needed to have but it would have been nice to be told. The other thing: we ordered a beer to start with – Saigon to be exact but Larue turned up. Not a huge problem so we decided not to cause a fuss. Although the service was friendly it was just a bit random and inconsistent. The duck magret was to be served with an apple sauce and after we ordered, the waiter came back and advised that there would be no apple sauce because apples were not available at the market that morning. I asked what the apples would be replaced with and was told there would be no replacement. We still went with the duck but what a missed opportunity to do something clever with the ingredients that were available on the day not just be defeated and stick to the formula.

There were two other things that disappointed me – the cutlery and glassware. Both were obviously at the lower end of the scale. We often eat at a number of other restaurants in the area that have much nicer dinning equipment and charge half the price. In my opinion, it would be so easy to give the restaurant a more upmarket feel by making a change. Value for money is about more than just the food. But that’s just my opinion.
