Otres 2 Beach – Sihanoukville, Cambodia

The best beach in the Sihanoukville area by far. Water is clean and clear, sand is white, very fine and mostly free of rubbish (except after storms). There are a few hawkers but a few more would be nice for food (fresh fruit, etc) so restaurant meals aren’t the only option. Motorcycles are $7 per day and worthwhile for exploring the surrounding beaches.

The centre of Sihanoukville is approximately 15 minutes (slow ride) with many restaurants, shops, supermarkets, etc. Otres 1 is the other end of the same beach (a pleasant 30 minute walk on the sand but no lights at night) and there are many restaurants, bungalows, water sports and entertainment but not as clean as Otres 2.

Recommended restaurants: Tamu: great menu, delicious food, generous servings, appropriately priced, super friendly and efficient staff (only fault we could find was beer in cans rather than bottles or draught but that’s personal preference). Secret Garden: excellent food and drinks at a decent price, huge menu, draught beer available, pleasant atmosphere, always busy. Sam’s Beach Bar: backpacker-ish but comfortable, friendly, cheap drinks (huge glass of wine), food was basic but perfectly fine. Bamboo Bistro: great food at discount prices, friendly staff, not quite grungy but…

At Otres 1, Chez Paou and Amber are both worth a visit.

One other thing, Sihanoukville is approximately 4 hours from Phnom Penh by car. If you can possible avoid that drive, do it. There is an international airport nearby but flights are extremely limited (at this stage I think it’s only Siem Reap and somewhere in China). Next time we will look at flying.
