Six Senses has been our ‘go-to’ for celebrations since 2007 when we celebrated my **th birthday with family and friends who had travelled from Australia. On that occasion, staff went above and beyond our expectations, even coming up with special touches we didn’t ask for. Everyone who attended agreed it was an evening to remember.

Since then, we have returned for NYE dinners and parties on a number of occasions and we always leave impressed. Last week, was my birthday again – not a big one this time so no huge plans but we did decide to start the celebrations with a glass of bubbles at Six Senses, just to keep the tradition alive. As we arrived at reception, the skies opened up but staff rushed around to make sure that we were dry and comfortable until a short break in the rain when they whisked us away in one of the many gold carts, to the Dining on the Rocks site. From what we saw, the grounds and buildings of the property have been maintained to a very high standard to provide an atmosphere of secluded luxury. We were settled in a superb spot with views across to Koh Phangan so when the rain did eventual clear, we enjoyed a stunning evening view of silver lined clouds, sparkling lights in the distance and magnificent sailing vessels gliding around the point. We were welcomed warmly in the bar area and when they recognised that we weren’t inhouse guests, they took the time to ask our story. The weren’t intrusive and it was lovely to chat. We ordered champagne and were surprised to receive a lovely selection of warm snacks to accompany the drinks. Both the refreshments and the food were perfect. It was a beautiful start to the evening and once again, I know we will return (in the very near future I hope!).
