Beach Republic – Lamai, Koh Samui, Thailand

We were looking for a Sunday brunch destination and initially considering a visit to Nikki Beach but after a discussion with the owner of our accommodation, we decided that Beach Republic might be more appropriate. On arrival we were greeted like old friends and made to feel welcome instantly.

We were seated at a booth overlooking the pool and beach with a lovely breeze and easy access to the extensive buffet. Our welcome cocktails arrived without delay.

The food was sensational including an extensive selection of Thai and western items with salads, fresh seafood, roast meats, BBQ foods, cheese & meats and many options for dessert. I didn’t manage to sample everything but of the things I did have, nothing disappointed. I chose the free flow sparkling wine package and while wine is never ‘cheap’ in Thailand, I did feel that it was good value.

Service was friendly but unobtrusive and staff were obviously trained in the finer details of managing the room. On a number of occasions I noticed individuals swooping to fix something that was just slightly out of place – a buffet item that had moved, a plate that had been left in a state of disarray by a careless guest.

The live music was the perfect accompaniment to the sounds of the ocean and the gentle hum of happy people. No this is definitely not Ibiza but we felt there was a nice mix of patrons – some children but mostly well dressed adults of varying ages. A couple of groups/celebrations and also a number of couples but there was space for everyone.

After enjoying quality food and refreshments, we swam and relaxed before heading back to our accommodation in the north.

Congratulations to management. We made the right decision and we will be returning (next week in fact!).
