Foreign Correspondents’ Club (FCC) – Phnom Penh, Cambodia
As a meeting place for journalists and travellers for many years, the Foreign Correspondents’ Club is one of the older establishments in Phnom Penh. The building occupies a prime waterfront position on Sisowath Quay, with a café on the street level and a number of bars, restaurants and accommodation over the floors above.
The colonial history and heritage of the building is reflected in the style and decoration so atmosphere is a given.
We’ve visited a number of times over the years but have never eaten (no reason, it just didn’t happen) but drinks on the rooftop overlooking the Mekong River is a very pleasant way to spend an hour or two. Their list covers the usual beers, cocktails and wine, prices are average – not outrageous for the experience. Service is efficient and friendly. The food menu looks great and customers in the restaurant downstairs mostly seemed to be tourists or expats which is not always what I look for in a restaurant but they all seemed to be enjoying their meals.
Phnom Penh is changing rapidly with flash new hotels, bars and restaurants popping up fast, but the FCC is still worth a visit, even if it’s just for one drink.
