Nan’s Dumpling Time – Newcastle, NSW, Australia
We started following these guys when they had stalls around town so we were very excited when they setup shop. It’s only a small place but clean, fresh (indoor/outdoor) and comfortable.
Our favourites are the pan fried pork & chive dumplings followed closely by the chicken & vegetable dumplings. Both have smooth, light pastry, served a little crunchy on one side with a tasty broth inside… yum! I’ve never counted them but I think there are approximately 12-14 of these delicious little parcels per serve.
Also on our table regularly are the pan fried pork buns. These crunchy little balls are the ones you want if you’re feeding a family – very filling but so good you have to have them! We’ve also had the ha gau on a number of occasions and they don’t disappoint either – silky, thin pastry with a clean, fresh prawn stuffing. We’ve tried a number of other things and all have been great but we love our favourites so much we keep going back to them.
Portions are generous and it’s terrific value for money. Service is friendly and efficient – lovely people. They do a roaring trade in takeaway too.
One other positive – I don’t believe they use much MSG as I usually have some reaction when I come across it but not at all here.
